女性持续尿频尿急而多次尿检查正常，尿液中无细菌生长，多年来亦未见恶化，这种证候称尿道综合征。有许多种疾病都可以引起尿频尿急，例如常见的尿路感染、肾结核、膀胱尿道病变、膀胱控制失调致尿潴留等，这些情况都有某一器官损害，检查不难发现。经过全面检查，没有上述疾病的线索，便可称尿道综合征了。
尿道综合征的原因有多种，医治方法略有差别。有部分人是由于紧张、焦虑、多疑、内向等心理状态造成，可因生育、性交及妇科疾病而加重。所以，要找寻此症的原因，应找泌尿外科及妇科大夫检查，全面检查后，针对病因进行治疗。尿道综合征不是实质器官的疾病，尽管痛苦不小，持续多年，也不会损害身体健康。解除焦虑，主动控制排尿，尽量延长排尿间隔时间，反复训练，也有助减轻不适。
