女性一旦出现排尿不适等征状时，应及时去医院诊治，切莫忌医，更不能擅自滥用药物。由于尿道综合征在许多情况下是非细菌感染所致，此时如使用抗生素，不仅疗效不佳，而且易反复发作，给患者带来身体上和精神上的极大痛苦。引起尿道综合征的病因有：
1.神经功能异常：
损伤，感染，X线照射等引起尿道内纤维组织增生，使神经发生异常反射。
2.心理因素：
如紧张焦虑，多疑及内向等心理状态是尿道综合征的易感因素。
3.其他：
如免疫因素，雌激素水平下降，镁离子缺乏，医源性因素等。平时常穿紧身尼龙内裤的女性，由于外阴部透气性和吸湿性不好，以及运动时外阴与尼龙裤产生摩擦，同样会刺激局部而引起尿道综合征。此外，情绪波动，如生气、悲伤、急躁等，也可诱发或加重尿道综合征。
如是新婚女子患尿道综合征，是其外阴部和外生殖器还不习惯性生活刺激之故，只有随着性生活次数的增多，外阴部逐渐适应，有关征状才会随之减轻，直到完全消失。如是穿紧身尼龙内裤刺激局部导致的尿道综合征，也只有不穿此类内裤，使外阴避免接触化纤纤维，才能最终解决问题。
