单纯从生理医学角度来看，女性尿道综合征是一种具有下尿路刺激症状，但无器质性改变的膀胱一尿道功能性异常的综合征，而从生理一心理角度联合起来看，女性尿道综合征则属于典型的身心疾病。虽然16～70岁的女性均可患病，但以中年妇女最为多见，尤以围绝经期女性为高发人群。多数患者性格内向，遇事容易紧张，时常感到烦躁不安、恐惧、焦虑和忧郁，每当此时，就会出现尿频、尿急症状或使尿频、尿急症状加重。预防尿道综合征可从下列方面着手：
1、保持局部干燥卫生，勤洗澡。避免因尿频、尿急、尿失禁诱发炎症和湿疹。
2、饮食上少吃辛辣食品。
3、大量饮水，每天至少2000毫升左右，多喝水后，排尿次数增多，大量尿液的排出可将泌尿道里的细菌冲出体外，因怕尿频、尿急而不喝水的做法是不妥当的。
4、下腹部及膀胱区域进行热敷，或洗热水浴及热水坐浴，目的是加速下泌尿道的血液循环，控制炎症和缓解症状。
5、禁止房事，生病期间停止房事，以免进一步加重病情。
